There are three different ways you can floss your teeth: with a water flosser, with traditional dental floss, or not at all. However, because the ADA encourages all patients to floss their teeth at least twice a day, you should skip the latter suggestion of “not at all.” Even though both traditional dental floss and water flossers are popular for different reasons, water flossers are gaining more popularity. So, when should you choose a water flosser over dental floss?
One of the biggest problems with braces is that food tends to get trapped in between the brackets and wires— making it hard to get everything out. The pressurized water from a water flosser is one of the best ways to get food out of your braces without you having to worry about hectically weaving traditional dental floss in and out of your teeth.
Gum disease is a fairly common oral condition that afflicts millions of Americans. Causing your gums to become red, inflamed, and bleed easily, gum disease can oftentimes be a bit painful. To help you find some relief from this pain and discomfort, and massage your gums at the same time, consider getting a water flosser. By filling up the flosser with warm water and turning it on low, the massaging sensation will work to help you feel better before you know it.
Even if it’s waxed, some patients find regular dental floss to be beyond uncomfortable — making their gums bleed and feel sore. However, because flossing is one of the best things you can do for your oral health, it’s important that you try to do it at least twice a day. Rather than skipping out on flossing altogether, try using a water flosser both morning and night.
If you don’t floss as regularly as you should because of the discomfort from dental floss, consider purchasing a water flosser. To learn more about how you can take better care of your smile or schedule your next dental cleaning, contact Gentle Dentistry today!
