High quality Oral Hygiene Services to help keep your teeth and gums healthy

As a patient at Gentle Dentistry in the Tampa, Florida, area, you will receive the highest quality cosmetic and restorative dental care. Your oral hygiene routine needs to be of high quality and importance to maintain your quality dental care. It is equally necessary to see our hygienist for regular professional dental cleanings. At Gentle Dentistry, our hygienist will address your home care needs to help keep your teeth and gums healthy. We want our patients to have the information and knowledge they need to maintain their oral health over time and enjoy beautiful smiles for a lifetime!

For our patients that have or plan to have cosmetic, restorative dental treatment, our hygienist uses a specialized polishing agent on your porcelain veneers to assure the veneers remain as shiny and new as they were on the day they were bonded into place.

Not only are regular dental check-ups and cleanings required to maintain the warranty on your cosmetic and restorative dental treatment, but they are also equally important in preventing gingivitis and periodontal disease.

Bleeding gums is quite prevalent, as is the incidence of early gum disease. Approximately one in every two adults suffers from mild gum disease, known as gingivitis. While we all want to keep our teeth and gums healthy, gums are prone to infections without proper oral care. If gingivitis persists, it can progress to periodontitis, a chronic disease of the supporting tissues of your teeth. Due to the link between one’s oral health and systemic health, prevention is key! With periodontitis, oral hygiene (and GOOD oral hygiene) is the cure!

Gum Disease

The 3 stages of gum disease are gingivitis, periodontitis, and advanced periodontitis. Gingivitis is caused by toxins irritating the gum line as a result of plaque buildup. Signs and symptoms of gingivitis includes swelling, sensitivity, and bleeding of the gums during brushing and flossing. Gingivitis can be easily reversed through professional care and good home oral hygiene. Periodontitis is categorized by irreversible bone loss that results from untreated gingivitis. The gums may begin to form a pocket below the gum line which traps food and plaque. Dental treatment and home care can help prevent from further damage, but at this stage, the results are not reversible. Advanced periodontitis is when the fibers and bones supporting the teeth destroyed. This may cause teeth to shift or loosen. Teeth may have to be removed depending on how advanced the disease has become and if treatments are not effective. You can begin by preventing gum disease with good oral health.
